What business are you really in

No matter what business you are in, there is another way of thinking of it.
Hunter at Sunset

I learned early on that the business I’m in is not hunting. The business I’m in is entertainment. Entertainment is a mindset of everybody that works for you.

  1. I do like this approach because I tend to see any business being in the business of solving problems.

For example, Rickey Squires is trying to solve the problems of clients looking for entertainment.

Once you start looking at what business you are in, you can see new opportunities. To pick on Rickey again, instead of trying to sell himself to hunters he could be looking for people seeking new challenges. And that’s a much bigger market.

I’m a blogger. And I’m in the business of explaining things.

  2. Good thoughts, Becky. Thanks for sharing. I happen to like this quote from Colleen Barrett, President Emeritus of Southwest Airlines:

“We talk internally about being in the customer service business that happens to provide airline transportation.”

  3. It’s a tough question…especially for someone like me whose product (a shoulder rehab / prehab tool) was created by a couple of industrial mechanics.

Thanks for helping me see the need to refocus.
