Put It in the Brag Basket

The Brag Basket is our tradition of sharing. The basket is always free and open all weekend, this one Dec 9-11, 2011. Have some good news this week? Put it in the Brag Basket.

Don’t hold back because of that word, “brag.” When you hold back, you hide your good news and accomplishments that might inspire others. Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing.

What can you do in the Brag Basket?

  • introduce yourself
  • share some great news from this week
  • congratulate a friend
  • laugh about something wonderful that you tried that failed
  • applaud for each other

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post.

This is not an ad. (I delete the ads.) It’s a conversation with friends. So jump in. And remember to cheer for each other.

  1. Lots of reasons for La Grange, Kentucky merchants to brag in December — Two of our business owners, Mike and Vonnie Glover of “You Deserve It Travel” spent countless volunteer hours to decorate our courthouse lawn. They arrived in La Grange (population abt. 8,000) from Murrieta, California, in February, and brought all their Christmas decorations with them. Their show brought a record 5,000 people to La Grange for our 25th anniversary Light Up La Grange — and the show is continuing throughout the month to hopefully bring in more shoppers for our “shop local” campaign. We also have a record number of merchants open on Friday and Saturday nights to take advantage of that show. Very proud of this town and its merchants!

My role is Main Street manager, and I also am a business owner. An article about Mike and Vonnie can be found here: http://murrieta.patch.com/articles/longtime-murrieta-holiday-light-display-transplants-to-kentucky

  2. Lake Arrowhead, CA hosted its first social media meetup this week. 35 people attended -from a college student to a 60 year old concrete business with offices 40 minutes away (the owners live in Lake Arrowhead). A total of 28 businesses were represented. Since social media has been so effective in marketing Lake Arrowhead as a destination, it is my hope that we can now crowdsource our social media effort to not only bring more attention to the destination but start to “drill down” and focus on our individual businesses as well. I provided a list of tweets and Facebook posts for those in attendance to use through the end of the year to help them when they can’t think of what to post. The attendees will then provide me with info they want highlighted monthly and I’ll put together a list of tweets and posts that will be distributed each month for all to use to help market each other. Looking forward to seeing how this grows over the next few months.
