On September 17th, 2017 – Kipling, Saskatchewan, Canada is holding Trade Day in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of One Red Paperclip (.com). Main Street will be blocked off and all businesses in the are have been invited to “show their stuff”, including business sidewalk sales, entertainment and vendors from home-based businesses in the area. Restaurants are having food specials. Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival is having a bacon scavenger hunt with bacon prizes of course!

Went on a little rural road trip to some towns, making a 200 mile circle… What did I learn?? That Hurdsfield (pop 83) may appear to have nothing, but actually has a bitty strip mall tucked away that has a ‘general store’, a hair stylist and gift shop. and a Dairy King! Ann, the Chamber director in Harvey has organized a city wide Explore Harvey (1500+)day in Sept, complete with BBQ brisket on Main street, sidewalk sales, museums and more.
And I addressed Mercer (pop 97) city meeting on the positive economic impacts rural water can have on their future.
So- Yeah! Lot’s of fun and exciting things going on in our rural areas!

Good morning! My name is Cheyenne from Wall, SD and after watching the “Changing Small Town Attitudes Toward Entrepreneurship” webinar, we held a “Coffee and Calendars” event. The event was a success! About ten community members joined the meeting, shared their calendar and enjoyed coffee and conversation. We have since created an online community calendar! This was a community need that is now filled. We look forward to more “Coffee and Calendar” events and continued community collaboration.
