Put something juicy in the Brag Basket

The Brag Basket is our tradition of sharing. The basket is always free and open all weekend, this one August 5-7, 2011.

Even though I call this the Brag Basket, it’s not really about bragging. It’s about sharing.

What can you do in the Brag Basket?

  • introduce yourself
  • share some great news from this week
  • congratulate a friend
  • laugh about something wonderful that you tried that failed
  • applaud for each other

Don’t hold back because of that word, “brag.” When you hold back, you hide your good news and accomplishments that might inspire others.

Speak up and add yourself or another deserving soul in the comments. We all cheer, and everyone feels great. It lets you meet each other a bit. Reading each others’ stories brings us a bit closer to being a community.

How does it work? You write a comment on this post, email me, or catch me on any social network and share your thought.

  1. Here is a big brag! I’m the first one getting to the basket. We praise the competitive spirit, we nurture it, we reward it, yet I have never found a good deal of that commodity in residence within me…yet there are moments that life affords, as in this instance when your invitational tweet came into my consciouness as though, as is said, ‘out of the blue’ and I got here first and had a good taste of the competitive spirit come to my consciousness, shake it up and excite it with the thrill of the win! Got here first! Wow. I live such an exciting life.

  3. Thanks for the opportunity to brag about an ordinary guy who has done something extraordinary. This guy stepped up to adopt his nephew, a troubled kid who has been in foster care for more than 3 years. That kid just aged out of the system and would have surely been homeless had this man not taken him in. Because of his uncle’s compassion, this young man has graduated high school and is about to start college. A life saved, literally.

    A good friend and I started a blog this summer that focuses the awesomeness of living in our home county. It’s hard to gauge whether or not we have truly changed any conversation yet, but it’s been great fun pulling in friends and colleagues who also want to talk about why they love living here.     “Hi, I enjoy your articles on Small Biz Survival. Our library is the center piece of our community as we have very few businesses. Our town has a population of about 300. Our librarian is very resourceful and brings many people to the library with different programs. One of the latest was making scrapbooks with good no longer useable books. The kids loved the class and so did some of us adults. She has a cookie sale once a month and teaches oldsters how to use facebook and e mail.

    I just wanted to brag about our library in Prescott, Kansas.
