Rural Advantages make a comeback

Thanks to Mike Knutson, I found the Reasons Rural Rocks series at Podcasting through the Prairies.

Things we know, but take for granted, like:

8. Going to your neighbors’ and surprising them for coffee and it isn’t considered breaking in @return2rural

7. Open starry skies, flowers on dirt roads, fragrant fresh air, abundance of wildlife, commUNITY, escape… @dizzyraerae

6. Family-run restaurants that still serve REAL, fresh, home-cooked food. @ACSRC

Stop by and read the Top 10, then add your own ideas on Twitter, with the hashtag #ReasonsRuralRocks.

We started a Rural Advantages series in 2007:

  1. No ‘rush hour’; only ‘rush moment’
  2. Random encounters are good for business
  3. People are helpful
  4. No need for GPS Navigation
  5. A smaller, better network
  6. Trust
Maybe it’s time to bring it back.

  1. Great post Becky, thanks for introducing me to Podcasting through the Prairies. I was out and about this past weekend and one thing I take for granted by living and doing business in a rural community is access to natural beauty. I can be downtown one minute and five minutes later be in Allegany State Park or one of the other natural wonders in my area. It’s hard to beat that!

  2. It’s so true Becky. I grew up in a rural community, moved to the city and live in the burbs. My folks are building a house back out in a rural community and I miss the rural feeling. Rural does Rock. :)

  3. Thanks for the mention Becky! I look forward to hearing more of your #ReasonsRuralRocks and to seeing the trend spread. It’s good to give rural some love.
